Venn Diagram is the third in a trilogy of 7-inches from Breadminster County Council’s Elijah Minnelli, whose production style has made its home in the intersection between UK Bass, Dub, Cumbia and Eastern European musical traditions.

The track follows on from the musical president set by Elijah’s previous releases, featuring a melancholic harmonium lead melody backed with theremin sub-bass and driving percussion. The B-side is a live dub take of the track, peppered with warping delays and analogue spring reverb.

Venn Diagram is the result of a commission by Breadminster County Council to commemorate the 65th anniversary of the Domestic Laminator (DomLAM), invented by Breadminster resident, spiritualist and medium, Eisher Van Lipshtick in 1955.

Lipshtick found fame in Breadminster with his lengthy communal séances, which would often culminate in what he described as the “Permanising” of the automatic writing produced in the sessions, a process whereby the messages that came to litter Lipshtick’s spirit-room would be laminated, enshrining the “shouts from beyond” into a flexible, waterproof, and quietly sensual plastic permanence.

The artwork for the record (once again by Charlie Macglagan) entwines Lipshtick’s spiritualist history with another one of his vices, namely his pseudo-romantic obsession with work vehicles, specifically the Ford Transit van. Lipshtick's obsession with vans was well-documented, but eventually led to his untimely passing in 1992, when an attempt to further bond himself to his beloved Transit resulted in him being crushed by the vehicle; an incident that has been described by some as Breadminster’s greatest Mechanophilic tragedy.
